International Higher School of Medicine
The International Higher School of Medicine (IHSM) is a modern university recognized by international medical education organizations. The IHSM was established in 2003 as part of a strategy to reform the education system and increase the competitiveness of domestic universities. The main emphasis in the creation of the IHSM was placed on the creation of a modern and dynamic educational institution that provides high quality training and has a competitive potential in the medical education market. The IHSM is an innovative educational institution where we help to realize dreams of a career in medicine and shape future leaders in this field.
IHSM Central Campus
The Central Campus of IHSM is the setting for the Administration Headquarters
- The left block of the 3rd floor is occupied by the Chair of Humanities, which offers training in the subjects of Russian, English, Kyrgyz and Latin, as well as History, Philosophy. The right block is the setting for the International Affairs Department and Students` Affairs Department.
- The left block of the 4th floor is the location of the Chair of Natural Sciences Disciplines, which conducts training sessions in chemistry, biology, physics, computer science and molecular biology.
- The left block of the 5th floor is for the Chair of Pathology whose areas of concentration are pathophysiology, pathological anatomy and forensic medicine, while the right block is the premises for the IHSM Library.
- In the basement the IHSM has a Lecture Hall, the Student Council, leisure rooms for music, dance, instrumental performance. In addition, the IHSM has a cafeteria for students.
The IHSM welcomes students from all over the world and provides them with ample opportunities to learn and grow. The IHSM faculty are highly qualified experts in their fields who use the most advanced teaching methods to ensure that our students receive the best education in medicine. We are constantly working on improving our curriculum and we upgrade our equipment to prepare our students for the challenges of modern medicine.
Our school occupies a leading position in the national university rankings and is represented by students from 14 different countries. Most of our graduates pass the qualifying exam on the first try, which proves the quality of education we provide. We are also proud that over 92% of our graduates are employed, which says for the effectiveness of the physician training program. Our school is the first university in the Kyrgyz Republic as well as in the CIS countries to offer full education in English (5 years). Our school is proud of its academics, including 39 MDs and 164 PhDs, who are the recognized leaders in the medical field. With over 1 600 members, our Alumni Association also highlights our commitment to quality education and support for our alumni at all stages of their careers in medicine.
The IHSM trains only citizens of foreign countries: India, Pakistan, South Korea, Afghanistan, Great Britain, Nepal, Bangladesh, Maldives and other countries. Therefore, training is conducted in English. The structure of the IHSM is organized according to the international standards for medical educational institutions. Such an organization of the school activities allows conducting external and internal policies based on the principles of transparency and academic honesty, and also provides to the staff, faculty and students to take part in many aspects of the life of the university. Structurally, the IHSM consists of one faculty “General Medicine” and 15 departments.
Accreditation ensures that the university meets certain standards of education and carries out its activities with high quality. This means that the curriculum, the educational process and the qualifications of teachers comply with certain norms and requirements, and that the university monitors the observance of the rights and interests of students. The accreditation of a university is important for its students and graduates, as it increases their chances of employment and increases their opportunities for further learning and development.

We are pleased to welcome you to the website of IHSM Issyk-Kul campus on behalf of our teachers, administrators and staff. IHSM Issyk-Kul campus is a new promising educational institution located in a unique recreation area, known far beyond the borders of Kyrgyzstan. Issyk-Kul attracts people with its natural beauty and recreation opportunities.
IHSM Issyk-Kul Campus opened its doors in 2017 to welcome all of you. Professionally trained teachers pass on their knowledge to students who become future healthcare professionals. The campus has the potential to promote medical and information technology. Its goal is to meet the highest standards of a medical institution. The medical school strives to train outstanding professionals to become experts in their fields, who, in turn, will save patients’ lives.
Issyk-Kul Campus is an IHSM structural division located in the town of Cholpon-Ata on the shore of Issyk-Kul lake. The campus functions similarly to the IHSM campus in Bishkek and offers 5 years of training to get an MD Degree in General Medicine.
The administrative subdivisions and departments located in the Issyk-Kul Campus also tightly coordinate their activities with IHSM departments located at the Central Campus. The campus’s training units are equipped with all the necessary study materials to ensure effective learning.
Accreditation and ranking are two key indicators that speak about the quality of education provided by the university, its reputation and status, as well as opportunities for students and teachers.
